One scene in the film sees Emma suffer a sudden nosebleed in an emotional moment, and Taylor-Joy somehow managed to start bleeding from her nostril right on cue.

The original plan had been to cut the scene and add the fake blood under Taylor-Joy’s nose, but as she told The Guardian there was no intervention necessary.

“I didn’t know I had that talent until that scene,” said Taylor-Joy. “As soon as my nose started bleeding, [director] Autumn de Wilde and Johnny [Flynn, who played Mr Knightley] both got as excited as me. The crew were going, ‘Cut, cut!’ because they were concerned about me but us three were like: ‘What are you talking about? Keep rolling! This is unbelievable! We have to capture it on film.’”

At least 5 Palestinians, including a 16-year old child, were killed in an Israeli raid on the city of Tulkarem. This marks one of the most violent raids in the West Bank, spanning several days and still ongoing. Israeli settler violence is also seeing an all-time high, aided and abetted by IOF forces that have not only been shooting Palestinians and beating them to death, but also blocking ambulances attempting to rescue them.

This is in tandem with Israeli terror on residencies. The IOF has been repurposing random homes into detention centers, in effect forcing out Palestinian families that have nowhere else to go. And when they’re not doing that, they’re using their military tanks to tear down homes, destroy roads, demolish sewage lines, and blow up shops.

The U.S. will use its veto power against a Palestinian bid to be recognized as a member state of the United Nations during a vote at the Security Council expected to take place Thursday evening.

Vedant Patel, principal deputy spokesperson for the State Department, described as premature an effort by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to gain member status at the U.N.

He said there was not unanimity among the Security Council’s 15 members that the Palestinian Authority had met the criteria for membership, with unresolved questions over the governance of the Gaza Strip, where Israel is in a war to defeat and eliminate the controlling power, Hamas.

“And for that reason, the United States is voting no on this proposed Security Council resolution,” Patel said.

Earlier it was revealed that the United States was secretly pressuring other members of the Security Council to shoot down a Palestinian state membership so the US wouldn’t have to use its veto as that would lead to a wave of local and international criticism for Joe Biden.

United States vetoes Security Council resolution recommending observer State of Palestine be granted full United Nations membership

Result of the vote:

IN FAVOR: 12
AGAINST: 1
ABSTAIN: 2

In a vote of 12 in favour to one against, with two abstentions, the Council did not adopt a draft resolution that would have recommended the General Assembly to hold a vote with the broader UN membership to allow Palestine to join as a full UN Member State.

The draft resolution is among the shortest in the Council’s history: “The Security Council, having examined the application of the State of Palestine for admission to the United Nations (S/2011/592), recommends to the General Assembly that the State of Palestine be admitted to membership in the United Nations.”

For a draft resolution to pass, the Council must have at least nine members in favour and none of its permanent members – China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States – using their veto power.

After more than a year I’ve finished the letters of my cross-stitch. It was mostly stitched on the subway during my commute. It’s been my constant companion for months. I don’t want to let it go, but also I’m not sure how to continue yet.

I was powered by spite about how often astr*l*gy comes up in my circles, and I’m not sure a different project would entertain me as much. Though I do love the feeling of cross-stitching.

Sammy Davis Jr. and Marilyn Monroe (1955)

“I never once thought of her as tragic. She was an extremely caring and sensitive person who was easily bruised. Sometimes it seemed as if she was walking around with all her nerves exposed. She was always vulnerable, both to love and abuse, and had incredible sensitivity to other people’s views and emotions. She would become very involved in loving animals and even such things as plants and trees. She had the most endearing way of convincing even the most insignificant of men that they were the only guy in the world…none of us will ever forget her…to me she was one of the sweetest creatures ever to have lived.” —Sammy Davis Jr.
